How the Content Differs
Both tests are fully computer based and use AI scoring, so the testing experience feels similar. The difference is in the type of language tested.
PTE Academic uses academic content: lectures, essays, summarizing written text, and re-telling academic talks. It is designed to predict how well you will cope in a university classroom.
PTE Core uses everyday and workplace English: describing images, responding to situations, writing emails, and listening to general conversations. It is designed to reflect the English you use in daily life and at work in Canada.
